Michelle Obama says she ‘no sympathy’ for Melania Trump after abortion bombshell in blunt interview

Michelle Obama shared some pieces of wisdom with Melania Trump about being First Lady and raising children in the White House.

The best-selling author publicly stated that she struggled during the eight years she was first lady, but her faith and belief in her husband got her through that difficult time.

However, in an interview with Stephen Colbert in 2016, Michelle unexpectedly responded that she had no empathy for political spouses who might not share their partners’ beliefs .

Melania Trump’s blunt four-word response when asked what the public gets wrong about her

“No…you know, you have to be, you know, in it. If you’re in it, and if you don’t agree, you should have agreed before they ran. Bottom line is, if you didn’t agree with what Barack was saying, I would not support his run. So I stand there proudly, and I hope they are, too, standing with their spouses proudly . So no, no sympathy,” Michelle explained while the crowd chuckled at her candidness. In contrast, Melania Trump recently revealed in her self-titled memoir that she and her husband disagree politically over abortion rights .

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life,” Melania wrote in her book.

Melania’s decision to include a wealth of support over abortion rights was shocking to the public, given that her partner, President-elect Donald Trump , ran an anti-abortion platform and worked to dissolve reproductive rights for women in the US during his time in office.

In her tell-all, Melania also said she and Donald don’t agree on some aspects of immigration policy . This election season, Melania was absent on the campaign trail but said in an interview with DuJour magazine, “I am very involved at home.” She also stated in her book that she prefers to challenge her husband privately.

Despite the differences between the two ladies, Michelle ensured a smooth transition of power when she passed the baton to Melania. In an Instagram post at the time, Michelle described her disappointment over the outcome of the 2016 election but wrote: “Our democracy is so much bigger than anybody’s ego.”
