LORETTA LYNN ‘NEVER KNEW WHERE BABIES CAME FROM’ UNTIL SHE BECAME A MOTHER

As the most awarded country music singer in history, Loretta Lynn embarked on an extraordinary journey as a devoted wife and mother to six children.

Born on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, Loretta was the second oldest of eight children. Her upbringing in the coal-mining hills was marked by poverty, with her mother resorting to using newspapers and pages from old Sears Roebuck catalogs as makeshift wallpaper to keep the cold out.

Loretta married Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn at the age of 16. Her early married life was challenging, and she became a mother before fully understanding the concept of pregnancy.

Loretta’s first son, Jack, was born in 1949, and she faced the harsh reality of returning home shortly after giving birth due to financial constraints.

Her marriage to Doolittle was characterized by financial struggles, infidelity, and hardships. Despite the difficulties, Loretta remained devoted to her husband, describing him as her life and security. The challenges she faced during these years became the inspiration for her songwriting, providing an outlet for her emotions.

Tragedy struck Loretta’s family with the loss of her son Jack in 1984. Despite the devastating news reaching her while she was in the hospital, Loretta displayed resilience and strength in coping with the loss.

Loretta’s dedication to her family continued after Doolittle’s death in 1996. Despite enduring strokes and a broken hip in 2018, she remained resilient, actively recording music, and releasing her 50th studio album in 2022.

Loretta Lynn passed away on October 4, 2022, due to natural causes. In her final moments, she confided in close friends, revealing intimate secrets, including her feelings for country music icon Conway Twitty and her envy of friend Dolly Parton.

She expressed regret for not heeding her mother’s advice about the 3,500-acre ranch she purchased with Doolittle, the site where her son Jack tragically drowned in 1984. Loretta believed her house was under a curse, reflecting on her life with a mix of pride and unvoiced sorrows.
