Everything to Know About NCIS: TONY & ZIVA
By Movieguide® Contributor
The new NCIS spinoff NCIS: TONY & ZIVA has fans all abuzz.
“We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready,” said Michael Weatherly (Tony) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva). “The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter.”
“We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the ‘TIVA’ movement for years. To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!”
Ziva last appeared in Season 17, and Season 21 was the last time fans caught a brief glimpse of Tony.
“In the original series, which premiered in 2003, Ziva and Tony finally got together in Season 10. The two evidently slept together only for Ziva to decide to stay in Israel as Tony returned to the United States,” TODAY reported. “Nearly two years later, in the Season 13 finale, Tony is informed that Ziva died in an explosion at her Tel Aviv home and left behind a daughter — their daughter — named Tali. He then leaves NCIS to go raise their child.”
Eventually, it’s revealed that Ziva faked her death and hid her existence for the sake of her daughter
“The new series picks up after Tony and Ziva were reunited in Paris (off-screen) following the revelation she was alive and her completing one final mission with NCIS,” TV Insider reported. “’Since then, Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together,’ according to the official description. ‘When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.’”
Production on the show will begin this summer in locations in Budapest and elsewhere in Europe. A release date has not been announced, but TV Line believes fans can expect the first episode in late 2024 or early 2025.
De Pablo and Weatherly are the only actors’ names that have been announced. And there won’t be any other NCIS characters on the show, at least according to the current design for the show.
Movieguide® previously reported:
The stars of the series, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, revealed the name on a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, which Weatherly posted to his Instagram.
“It makes it really easy because the fans will know exactly what the show is. It’s about Tony and Ziva in Europe,” de Pablo said.
“I expect intrigue, romance, the background of Europe. Impossible situations that will make our life very complicated. But somehow, a little something about love,” she added.
De Pablo previously performed in THE 33, a movie from Warner Bros. Pictures about Chilean miners trapped in a desert mine for 69 days. The movie won the Movieguide® Best 2015 Movie for Mature Audiences.
“It’s very hard to make movies like this,” de Pablo said at the Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards Gala. “This movie’s about faith and about hope and about family. It was very hard to get it made and very hard to shoot. We actually walked into a real mine 30 days in a row, 12 hours a day and experienced a lot of very difficult circumstances. Of course, not similar to the ones that the 33 endured but we’re here, we’re alive and we’re very thankful for this award.”
